ABOUT

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art whose goal is controlling a resisting opponent and forcing submission. Many of the techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are geared toward the skill of taking an opponent down to the ground and wrestling for dominant control positions from where the opponent can be rendered harmless. Students benefit from greatly increased physical fitness, problem-solving ability, self-knowledge, and the many social benefits of working within a group as you learn and have fun together.

Students in the Martial Arts classes will learn some jiu-jitsu as part of the standard curriculum but these classes are intended to put full emphasis on jiu-jitsu technique.

KIDS JIU-JITSU

Our Kids Jiu-Jitsu Program emphasizes grappling, a form of combat that uses locks, chokes, and holds rather than striking. The Kids Jiu-Jitsu Program curriculum focuses on controlling an opponent, transitions, and positional sparring with other students. The techniques the students will learn are explained and repeated in ways that will help younger students remember them more easily. The concepts of perseverance (steadfastness and persistence; not giving up in spite of difficulty), respect (regard and consideration for others), courtesy (acts and behavior that demonstrate respect, manners, and consideration), and self- control (exercising restraint over one’s actions and impulses) are at the core of the program.

ADULT JIU-JITSU

Our adult Jiu-Jitsu program is for ages 16 and up. We are certified through Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association, so this class has more sport or competitive focus than the traditional Martial Arts classes but is still fantastic for practical self-defense.

Training in Jiu-Jitsu is amazing for your well-being in so many ways! US Martial Art’s Academy’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is generally considered the most intense option available - physically challenging, psychologically stimulating, and emotionally cathartic. You will leave each class feeling great and wanting more!

This is the best thing that could ever happen to me. The teachers there are really awesome and great at what they do. They know their stuff. This is where it's at. Don't miss out on this opportunity for you and your kids.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a fork of Japanese Ju-Jitsu that was developed mostly by the Gracie family of brothers in 1920s Brazil. It also borrows from Western sport wrestling traditions and sambo. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu places a heavy focus on groundwork and allows certain techniques forbidden in other styles like heelhooks and knee reaping.
