ABOUT

YOUTH MARTIAL ARTS

Little Grasshoppers is a special program for students ages 4-5. The students have special uniforms and belt colors to add to the excitement of their class. Their curriculum consists of techniques that help with focus, following directions, balance and coordination. We also cover some very important areas of safety such as stranger danger and situational awareness. Grasshoppers may graduate into Youth classes at different times based on personal maturity.

Regular Youth classes are for students ages 6-9. The curriculum consists of strikes and grappling self-defense teachniques. We also teach verbal self-defense for handling bullies. Goal-setting, fitness, and being a positive role model to others are highlighted.

PHYSICAL COORDINATION AND CONTROL

Young children who learn martial arts find out quickly that each movement must be intentional. They learn to control their movements to the best of their ability. They also practice hand-eye coordination and good balance. This means they are less likely to be unintentionally destructive.

Many of our students are also involved in other athletic activities like dance or team sports and tell us how much their martial arts training has helped!

LEARN HOW TO FOCUS

Getting young kids to pay attention can feel like an impossible task. The structure of our martial arts classes, with full parent participation, shows kids the importance of focus and teaches them by having them apply it to easily-achievable tasks.

The focus they learn at our school is something they will take home – and into the classroom. Kids who study martial arts tend to also be good academic performers.

My two little ones attend the Grasshopper classes and love it. The instructors are all so fun and patient. I cannot recommend US Martial Arts Academy enough. This is the perfect place to help your little one learn respect, winning and losing, listening skills, and working well with others.

My daughter loves it here. Always clean. Great student to teacher ratio. The staff are very friendly and extremely welcoming. We look forward to inviting our friends.

All my kids have been going here for 3 years. Most family operated place. Wouldn't go anywhere else for my kids to do martial arts. The owner is very reasonable and understanding. The instructors work hard to make sure these kids are doing the right thing on the mat and off the mat. Love this place!!!!

YOUTH MARTIAL ARTS FAQS

Absolutely. We help children learn the importance of emotional control and respect for others as well the proper times and expressions of their feelings. These are lessons that will help them in the classroom as well.

Yes. It is common for students to require more than one attempt to learn a new technique or even earn a new belt. Our instructors are trained in coaching techniques that provide both challenge and support so students learn that persistence pays off.

Respect is at the core of everything we do in the dojo. Kids who study martial arts must respect their instructors and fellow students, and we find that they learn to respect parents, teachers, caregivers, and siblings at the same time.

Yes - part of martial arts training is teaching children to be mindful of themselves and their surroundings. They must focus to succeed in class, and once they learn to do it, they'll be able to do the same thing at school.

Yes - even though studying martial arts is an individual pursuit, we teach kids in a collaborative environment with an emphasis on sharing, cooperation, and teamwork. Students work together to learn and perfect the curriculum, which promotes healthy interpersonal relationships.

The only benches at our school are for the parents! Martial arts instruction is both fun and active. Everyone gets to be involved for the entire class, which often eliminates the primary reason kids dislike sports. In addition, many kids think that martial artists are cool and that can help them stick with it even if it’s hard at first.
