ADULT MARTIAL ARTS

Even when you do find time to hit the gym, you might be bored by your same old workout. There’s nothing exciting about another go-round on the treadmill or elliptical – and you might need some encouragement to achieve your fitness goals.

We learned a long time ago that if people are having fun, they progress much faster. Setting and achieving goals, getting in shape, and building martial arts skills provide for an exciting experience. Praise, encouragement and positive reinforcement are commonplace in the Academy. Classes are enjoyable, entertaining and planned to ensure the attention of the students and have everyone wanting to come back for more.

SELF-CONFIDENCE

Many people feel vulnerable and wish that they had a way to defend themselves if they end up in a dangerous situation. Our curriculum is comprehensive with regards to self-defense situations. You will learn how to deal with strikes, grabs, chokes, being on the ground and - in truly dire situations only - assault with a knife or pistol. 

The real value of course is in prevention. Most of our students never have to apply what they learn in a real self-defense situation because the training teaches them to present themselves in a way that discourages hostility. Our students have the confidence to pursue their interests safely and purposefully.

LINEAGE OF PRACTITIONERS

Our school's martial arts traditions are of many ages. Brazilian jiu-jitsu, as it is currently taught, is only about a hundred years old where Okinawan Kempo Karate can trace obvious roots for millenia all the way back through Chinese kung-fu and Indian kalaripayattu. Tae kwon do, arnis, kobudo, and  jujitsu - the other foundations of our school - range between these two extremes. In training, you become a piece of a long, powerful lineage of practitioners across cultures and time. 

A lineage is not just old pictures and paintings, though. Your lineage is just as much the people you train with today as it is those who trained before you. You will meet other students like yourself, sharing the successes and challenges of training while building lifelong friendships.

I have studied at the USMAA over 20 years ago and here I am, back at it with my daughter. Great people, they become your second family. Highly recommend.
